Scheduled releases can move prices sharply, but how much depends on the asset, the release and the surprise. Instead of relying on a general claim, this tool lets you measure it. Record the price just before a release and the price some minutes after, and it calculates each percentage move, the average size and the largest. The data is yours; the tool fetches nothing.

News Move Log

Enter prices you recorded yourself from a chart. A handful of releases is a small sample, and the size and direction of the next move cannot be predicted from past ones. Entries are not saved.

How to Use This Tool

  1. Choose a release you follow and a fixed number of minutes after it, and stick to the same interval every time.
  2. Enter a name, the price just before and the price after for each release.
  3. Read the average size of move and the largest move, and add more releases to improve the sample.

Reading the Numbers

The average absolute move shows how big the typical reaction was in your sample, ignoring direction. The largest move shows how extreme it can be. Neither says what the next release will do. Direction in particular cannot be inferred from a handful of past events, and a surprise in the data can send a price either way or both ways in quick succession.

Use the result to decide how you will handle releases, for example by standing aside before them or reducing stake size. The decision should be written in your plan, as in news trading strategy and strategy for news releases. Understanding what a release measures helps; see economic indicators explained and central bank announcements.

Record prices from the same chart source each time and note the exact timing, because a delay of a minute can change the result. Keep in mind that execution may lag in fast markets; see ignoring platform execution delays.

Limits

This page uses only the numbers you type in. It does not fetch prices, payouts or schedules, it does not know your platform, and its output is not advice or a prediction. Check your platform's own terms and test any plan on a demo account first.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many releases do I need?

More is better. A handful tells you little, and the average will move as you add data.

Can the tool predict the direction?

No. It measures past moves only.

Why use a fixed interval?

So that every release is measured in the same way and the figures are comparable.

Is anything saved?

No. Download or copy your figures before leaving the page.
