Is It Legal in Your Country?

A clear-eyed breakdown of binary options regulation by region — from EU bans to unregulated grey zones.

Is binary options trading legal where you are?

Binary options are prohibited for retail clients under rules in the UK (FCA), Germany (BaFin) and Australia (ASIC). In the EU, ESMA announced in 2019 that it would not renew its temporary EU-wide prohibition, saying most national regulators had taken permanent national measures. Rules differ by country; check the official regulator. In many other countries the status is uncertain or changing. Depositing with an unregulated broker in a banned jurisdiction carries legal and financial risk that most platforms do not disclose clearly.

Select your country to see the current legal status, which regulators apply, and which brokers are authorised (if any) to serve you.

Our scoring covers 28 criteria across six categories: regulation & licensing, platform quality, payout rates, deposit/withdrawal reliability, customer support, and educational resources. Every data point is individually verified — we don't accept broker self-reporting without independent confirmation. See our full methodology page.
We do participate in affiliate programmes, which means we may earn a commission if you open an account through our links. However, affiliate relationships do not affect editorial scores or review content — brokers cannot purchase positive coverage. Our advertiser disclosure page explains this fully.
Every review shows a "Last verified" date in the review header and on broker cards. High-priority reviews are re-verified quarterly; all others are reviewed at minimum annually. If a regulatory status changes, we update and note the change in the review's update log — not as a silent edit.
Minimum deposits vary significantly. Among reviewed brokers, the range runs from $5 (Deriv, Pocket Option) to $10 (Quotex, IQ Option) and higher for some legacy platforms. Our "Best Low Minimum Deposit" comparison lists brokers with $5–$50 minimums with verified deposit confirmation.
Most reputable platforms offer a free demo account with virtual funds. We note demo availability in every review and specifically flag whether the demo environment matches real-account conditions (some platforms use different payout rates on demo vs. live).
