The FSA describes binary options as a trade in which you choose between two alternatives, based on forecasting the rise or fall of an exchange rate or stock index and similar over a set time or period, such as higher or lower than a certain value or within a certain range; you pay an option fee when buying, and after a set time it is judged whether the rate meets the pre-set condition, receiving a fixed payout if the forecast is correct.

How to Check a Firm

The FSA tells investors to confirm that the counterparty is a firm registered under the Financial Instruments and Exchange Act before trading.

If a firm does not appear on the relevant register, treat that as a reason to stop and check further before sending money.
